Sub-Regional Workshops for GEF Focal Points

Beginning in 2007 the CSP has organized a series of annual sub-regional workshops for GEF Focal Points.  These workshops provide an opportunity for Focal Points to meet with their counterparts from other countries in the region and GEF Partners to discuss and review policies and procedures and to share lessons and experiences from development and implementation of GEF projects and their integration within national policy frameworks.

The design and content of the sub-regional workshops are based on the evolving needs and requests expressed by GEF Focal Points during earlier GEF consultation workshops. Highlights include presentations and discussions of the implementation of policies and strategies approved by the GEF Council in 2007 and 2008, e.g., focal area and cross-cutting strategies, Agency comparative advantages, revised project cycle and formats.  Sessions also respond to Focal Point wishes to contribute to the ongoing Mid-Term Review of the Resource Allocation Framework (RAF), and the Fourth Overall Performance Study of the GEF (OPS4), to engage with the new programmatic approach of the GEF, and to develop specific capacities related to GEF project monitoring and knowledge management, among other concerns.

Most importantly, the Workshops provide for a rich peer-to-peer exhange of experience and knowledge in national and regional GEF project formulation, implementation and monitoring, national GEF coordination, integrating GEF into national plans and priorities, and priority-setting for national RAF allocations.

Materials prepared for and presented at Sub-Regional Workshops by Focal Points, GEF Secretariat, GEF Agencies, and CSP are provided here under the various workshop pages created for the specific sub-regions.
